Last year when the gyms were closed, I had to find a way to stay fit and find a way to get rid of any nervous energy. During the lockdown, it was very hard to find workout equipment but I managed to get my hands on a jump rope. A jump rope workout is a great way to get in cardio. It also helps with agility, coordination, and balance.
When I first started jumping I will admit, it was a struggle. My coordination wasn’t the best and I would get winded quickly. I will say after a week or two I got the hang of it! Besides pilates it’s one of my favorite workouts. If you are new to jumping rope you should build up slowly rather than going head first into jumping for a long period of time.
There are a few key tips to getting the most out of your workout.
- Make sure you are swinging from your wrist and not your shoulders. Swinging from your shoulders will tire you out quickly!
- Keep your core tight and engaged and posture upright
- Keep your elbows tight to your body and shoulders down
- No double jumping like you did in elementary school
- Avoid jumping too high, it will take too long for your feet to touch the ground, and prepare to jump again.
I do have a video that I follow on all of my workouts which I will link below. It’s a 13 minute Tabata workout that will be a great quick workout. You may think 13 minutes of jumping isn’t hard but this always makes me work up a sweat.
I have also have placed a link to an adjustable rope from Amazon that is great for beginners. Link here
Happy Jumping Everyone!
