Gua Sha is a traditional East Asian and Chinese technique to increase facial energy flow and blood circulation. Gua means to scrape and Sha means sand. The exact terms means the act of scraping the skin to remove any energy blockage using a stone made of bian, jade, or rose quartz. Although the word scrape can seem a bit jarring this practice is actually pretty gentle.
I recently started doing gua sha facials over quarantine for a few reasons. One I couldn’t go to my usual monthly esthetician and two when I’m stressed I unfortunately grind my teeth. And quarantine had me stressed out which led to serious jaw pain. I usually do gua sha facials after I finish my skincare routine. Make sure your face is well moisturized with a facial oil or your usual moisturizer so that the tool isn’t dragging or pulling on dry skin.
I also like to keep my rose quartz tool in the refrigerator so that it’s nice and cold when I use it on my face. Feels so good on tired and puffy skin. Once I start flying again I will be traveling with my rose quartz to help remove any facial inflammation from my flight.
So have I seen a drastic differences in my facial tightness? I would say my face is less puffy when I do it in the morning and my jaw feels way less sore after I use it for sure. I also noticed my hyperpigmentation is lightened when I gua sha routinely. I have linked a great Youtube video that gives your step by step guide to a Gua Sha facial. If you are interested in trying a Gua Sha facial I purchased my rose quartz from Sephora for $18. I have listed some additional benefits below.
