As we all know the pandemic has hurt small businesses tremendously but not many are aware that the negative impact of the pandemic has fallen disproportionately on Black businesses.
I wanted to make sure to highlight some great black-owned business that have caught my eye over the past year.
1.
I became aware of Harlem Candle Company on social media this summer. I heard great reviews about their candles and I can speak from experience to confirm that they are great! What I love most about them is they even give off a scent when they aren’t burning. Provides such a none overpowering fragrance to any room. You can purchase their candles here. You also can get 10% off when you provide your email address.
2.
Wearing sunscreen is crucial no matter what race you are. As someone with sensitive skin, I’m have been very hesitant in the past to try various sunscreens. Not to mention the dreadful white cast that many use sunscreens can cause at times. I started to use Black Girl Sunscreen over the summer and I can personally declare that there is ZERO white cast. I also had zero skin irritation after applying it to my skin. You can purchase Black Girl Sunscreen from Target.
3.
Lip Bar is a Black-owned Vegan cosmetics line founded by Detroit native, Melissa Butler. Melissa launched Lip Bar in 2012 and went on to have a memorable Shark Tank appearance where the sharks couldn’t see the bright future ahead of Melissa. Lip Bar cosmetics is now available in over 400 Target stores and has been praised by former First Lady Michelle Obama. What I love about Lip Bar is their highly pigmented products. The line ranges from matte lipsticks, bronzers, and foundations in a variety of colors. You can purchase Lip Bar products here .
4.
I’m not the best plant parent but Rooted in Blk has great planters for all you plant lovers out there. They can come in various messages like “All Black Lives Matter” and “Protect Black Women”. You can check out their planters here .
5.
I first became aware of the Mcbride Sisters Collection via social media over the summer. Robin and Andrea Mcbride are the first African American duo to found and establish a wine company. These sisters have a unique story where they grew up across the globe but reunited over their love of wine. The wine industry has lacked diversity for a long time, it’s great to see two black women breaking down barriers. You can purchase wine from the Mcbride Sisters Collection from their website.

Juvias Place
If you are looking for super pigmented blush and lipsticks, Juvia Place is the makeup brand for you. I own both their “The Saharan Blush Vol 1” and “The Saharan Blush Vol 2” pallet and they both provide such great color payoff on darker skin. Juvia’s place was founded in 2015 by Chichi Eburu, and its mix of African-themed pallets are high quality at reasonable price points.
Founded in 2015 by Chichi Eburu, Juvia’s Place is a Black-owned cosmetic brand. Today Juvia’s Place is one of the most celebrated makeup lines currently on the market. Known for their African-themed palettes and richly pigmented blushes and highlighters. You can purchase Juvia Place cosmetics from their site or Ulta.

I use Nicole Ari Parker”s Gym wrap every time I work out. I purchased this head band two years ago and it has never failed me. It keeps my edges from frizzing after a hard workout. You do have to keep it on for 30 mins after your work out to make sure all the moisturizer has been absorbed. You can purchase this Gym wrap from here
